I saw an 8 terabyte regular hard drive the other day. It was at $279. Western Digital.
20 years ago I thought I was a hot sh#t buying a 10GB IBM hard drive at the same $279 price and the US dollar was worth at least 2.5 times as much back then.

You can get an external desktop 8Tb disk from Seagate for $159 and from Western Digital for $149 currently on Amazon.

We built 7ft high storage cabinets that were 8GB fully loaded. That was a few years ago but it is impressive to watch the storage capacity increase so dramatically.

You may be able to find an 8TB Seagate external for around $130.

30 years ago I spent similar for a 40 MB Seagate 238 MFM internal.

about 30yrs ago, a 1GB 8” drive from Sun Microsystems went for $10K though weighed 150 pounds including the power supply and was mounted on wheels.
