Asian-Americans in Mid-Term Election 2018

Posted on 11/28/2018 12:51:34 AM PST by Doreener

A 2018 Asian American Voter Survey, published Oct. 9, found that Democrats are at an advantage with the Asian-American electorate this midterm election. Democrats also held an advantage in voter identification, with 38 percent of those surveyed identifying as Democrats compared to 22 percent as Asian-American Republicans. Thirty-eight percent said they did not identify with either party.

When asked about Trump's job in office, a majority said they disapproved of his performance (58 percent), while 36 percent approved. This sentiment was not uniform among all ethnic groups: A majority of surveyed Vietnamese Americans approved of Trump (64 percent), the only surveyed group to do so. Filipino Americans were equally split, with 48 percent approving and 48 percent disapproving. Japanese-American voters gave Trump the lowest approval rating (14 percent).

This year's Mid-Term Election is starting on Oct 22nd. On November 7, Kimberly Yee announced her victory in the Arizona State Treasurer election 2018, making her the first female Chinese-American Republican to be elected in a major statewide race in the country's history.

Japanese Americans are the wealthiest Asians. It was FDR that put them in the camps. 70% of the females marry outside their race. It’s the american dream or sellout city. Don’t know.

Vietnamese prove of him. They know it’s the Democrats that sold them down the river.

Face it: Dems are better campaigners and put up better candidates in places like California and other minority heavy areas.

Asians tend to hold conservative values and are traditionalists at heart. Taiwan just voted down gay marriage.

Asians are not pioneering liberties... They are wired for the society they perpetuate.

Republicans had a chance to grab the AA vote in the 90s and early 2000s but they sat around and did nothing as usual.

Congratulations to Chinese-American, Kimberly Yee, for winning this election. May this usher her into a career in public service for the good of this nation, it’s values, and it’s Constitution which have brought us more than 2 centuries of freedom.

Hopefully they are coming around to the fact that liberals never meant for things like affirmative action to include them. I cant imagine why they vote Democrat except that they fell for the race pedaling of the left.

The biggest problem that the Republicans have with this community is finding someone who speaks Asian. But they are still looking for that one man (or woman).

Seeing the breakdown by state would help. With heavy concentration in California, Seattle and west, some of this reflects local cultures. I’d love to see what this population in Texas or Florida polls where it has larger impact.

You mean like the genius who wants to nuke people who have guns? The Dems who supported enviro-wacko ideas that led to devastating fires? Those better candidates?

Japanese Americans are probably the most anti-Trump because most of them are Hawaiians or New Yorkers...

Lots of Indians in Pittsburgh. Many of them are Democrats.

Big mystery to me as they are generally smart, well-educated and hard-working.

However, I’ve noticed they seem to be status-concious, and for some reason, Demons are viewed positively.

“Speaks Asian?? Ok!”

LOL - that’s my swipe at the lily-white Republican Party leadership that assumes people who don’t look like them will never vote for them, so why bother trying to reach them - even when Republican values TOTALLY line up with theirs (as in the case of Asians, almost completely with Hispanics, and even quite a bit with blacks).

I see your point.

My wife who is a Japanese-American and born in NYC has made comments echoing what you said.

For example she was far more anti-Hillary then for Trump in 2016. To her (and she** would say to other Asians!) Trump is too immodest & ill-mannered. I think she may have a point at least in regard to Trump. The other problem is the GOP has allowed itself to be defined by the Rats to Asian Americans as racist, intolerant religiously & too Euro-centric to accept “others”. There is the other issue, the conservative message (again as defined by RATS) is viewed as overly emphasizing the individual meaning defined as selfish! There is a lot of contradiction in this (Humans being inconsistent whodathunk!) No one is more individually competitive then Asians! - maybe more so then Jews! And actually many of the same false notions that Jews have about conservatives apply to the Asian view!

Now why the **, my wife was born in NYC and lived there until she was 14. She has Trump’s accent & his bombast! Of course every time I point that out I have to run and hide! :)

Immigrants, especially refugees from Communist countries are less likely to vote for Socialism in their new country. Their grandchildren, however, having been “educated” in American Universities are relearning the glories of Communism.

In Florida Cubans, Vietnamese, and now Venezuelans, tend to vote against or oppose (for those not yet citizens) government enhancers. Their experience of big government is not pleasantly remembered.

LOL - I think it is Trump’s mannerisms that she objects to. Policy wise, Trump is likely doing what she supports, particularly in the social area, including holding criminals accountable, etc.
