More than half the women who were murdered worldwide last year were killed by their partners or family members, making home the most dangerous place for a woman, a new UN study said Sunday.
In statistics released on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime calculated that of a total 87,000 female homicide cases worldwide in 2017, some 50,000 or 58 percent - were committed by the victims intimate partners or family members.
Around 30,000, or 34 percent, were committed by intimate partners alone.
This amounts to some six women being killed every hour by people they know, the Vienna-based body said.
The vast majority around 80 percent of homicide victims worldwide were men, but women continue to pay the highest price as a result of gender inequality, discrimination and negative stereotypes, said UNODC chief Yury Fedotov.
They are also the most likely to be killed by intimate partners and family making the home the most dangerous place for a woman, he said.
The fact that women continue to be affected by this type of violence to a greater degree than men is indicative of an imbalance in power relations between women and men inside the domestic sphere.

The title for the highest homicide rate for women in the world is currently held by El Salvador.
Which shows this is not about protecting women.
Why weren’t you in the kitchen
chopping peppers, and doing the
dishes? (just kidding you know)....
Oh wow, you IQ snob! ;) what, are you slow-phobic??
It’s probably not far off. Most women live and work in the home, worldwide that is.
Women murdered more often at location where they spend the vast majority of their time.
If I have a 1/1,000,000 chance of being killed at home in a given year, and a 1/2,000,000 chance of being killed in the Subway, it I spend 15 hours a day at home and 30 minutes a day on the Subway, the Subway is fifteen times more dangerous than my home, even if I am less likely to be murdered there.
In other news, everyone who has ever died had drunk water in some form.
That doesn't mean they were killed in their homes, though.
The funding for these U.N. needs to be cut off. (fixed)
Especially if your husband is a Leftist.
That’s a really tough life for those 6 women
This “study” is why President Trump should dramatically and instantly reduce our contribution to the UN. Most of the foreign employees at the UN are spies, and our money is paying their salaries. Time for their source of income to be choked off. They need to go home.
My home is pretty darn safe. My wife has access to a number of implements to repel an invader, most of which go BANG. The others go BOOM.

Hello.....could someone please shut the UN up? We are not interested in hearing from them.
Geesh, they already think they control the world.
Violent thugs have families and girlfriends too. There are women who prefer relationships with thugs over nice guys, possibly because the thugs are more exciting.
And the other 70% occur within 3 miles of Home.
