Saturday night trivia question: What two states do not have a school that uses the state name as thier moniker, ie. Alabama?

Or you mean New Jersey with Rutgers?

Rutgers.I think the reason was Princeton was called College of New Jersey until the late 19th century.

If you do some digging, you will find that the official name of the school is “Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey.”

New York is a possibility too....although there is a SUNY, there is no “main” campus, and they’re not Division I. Also New York University, but so far as I know, that’s in reference to the city rather than the state.

Louisiana has University of Louisiana Monroe (the former Northeast Louisiana), and Louisiana Lafayette (the former Southwest Louisiana)...neither is the “main” campus.

Nevada Reno is actually the main campus, although Nevada Las Vegas is a bigger campus now. For that matter, UCLA might be bigger than Berkeley.
