A 21-year-old man shot and killed by Hoover police at the Riverchase Galleria Thanksgiving night likely did not fire the rounds that wounded an 18-year-old and 12-year-old, police announced Friday night.
Earlier Friday, the Jefferson County Coroners Office identified the slain man as Emantic Fitzgerald Bradford Jr. Hoover police Capt. Gregg Rector while the department does not typically issue media updates during an internal investigation, there was information discussed with local media Friday night that merits update and clarification.
Preliminary information gathered Friday night, Rector said, indicated that two individuals were involved in a physical altercation that led to a 21-year-old male shooting an 18-year-old male multiple times. The 18-year-old victim was indeed shot and transported to UAB Hospital, where he remained on Friday.

One more thing. Try to be the first to call police after an incident. Then, when they arrive, tell them, “I’m the one who called for you.” Then following instructions calmly, even if police *individuals* are very excited. “Individuals,” heh. ;-b
This story does not smell good right now since there were a number of eyewitnesses to what happened.
Was the man who was killed by the police IN MILITARY UNIFORM or Not?
If so, why would he have a gun offbase (while in uniform)?
If he legally had a gun (as in Concealed carry), he may have been shooting at the real shooter and was mistaken for the initial assailant who shot the girl.
We he targeted or just an innocent bystander?
We need to KNOW positively or not whether he had a gun, and if so, why?
I do not make any assumptions about Mr. Bradford’s involvement in the shooting incident, any guilt or innocence. Way to early for a “rush to judgment”.
We will have to wait until all the eyewitnesses stories are checked against what the forensic evidence shows.
He has a good point in as much that the police need far better training and being able to discern a threat.
People carrying shouldn’t have to worry about being shot because they’re exercising rights. There was likely a lot of confusion, so we have to wait for more details.
Carrying means you do indeed have to be aware at all times about your body language and the impression you make with a visible weapon... having a right to carry doesn’t mean you are immune from other people’s stupidity.
Carrying a gun is a RIGHT! It is a disgrace that doing so puts you at rick of being shot by the cops! The fact that things are the way they are today needs to be changed. Your comment is rather disingenuous.
“YOU REALLY WENT OUT ON A LIMB FOR THIS DUDE!”
Well TG, you can always be counted on to offer up a nonsensical response to a serous comment! i guess if I read you ever get plugged, I won’t offer any condolences. since you always seem to side with the cops.
“it is going to become imperative to learn how to not get mistaken for the bad guy while trying to be a hero when the cops show up.”
Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner! The doughnut muncher is “always right” bu definition.
Yeah. Was the 21yo veteran chasing the real shooter, trying to stop him??
Point here is be very careful about getting involved, especially if you are only a bystander and the action is over. Defend yourself and your own. Otherwise, let the law do their thing if they are arriving to the scene and have to make quick decisions.
For ages “active duty” soldiers have been legal to carry if they like in almost all states. They have always been considered safe to carry because of their occupational special training and discipline. They have historically been allowed the same privileges as an off duty police officer in many states.
You are seriously misinformed. This is not true in the slightest.
I was just thinking that.
I sure wasnt allowed when I served.
Oh man. No good deed goes unpunished. The name sound like he may be Jamaican or from somewhere else outside the US.
“Emantic Fitzgerald Bradford Jr., the son of a Birmingham cop and a member of the US Army, was shot dead by officers responding to reports”
I doubt he was in military uniform at the time of the shooting. This was just an old photo of him. I am not she he was still in the military.
Well Lurch Adams my friend, the dead guy was probably trying to be a good citizen and shoot the bad guy and the genius cops shot him. I am sick of scared cops shooting people that don’t deserve it.
I see you hate the first amendment. Bet you hate the second, fourth and fifth too. In fact I bet you’d like to kill me. Sorry good buddy, but the time and place for people like you was from 1939 to 1945 in Germany and it’s passed.
Actually I stand corrected... The influence is towards the same exemption from training and safety course requirements as law enforcement.
Yes, some jurisdictions will waive the classroom requirement to obtain a CCW for active duty and retired service mebers but the overall right to carry does not go above and beyond that which is offered to civilians.
