FTR- Mauritania's top speed was actually around 28 knots, with a service speed of 25. Olympic's top speed was 23 knots with a service speed of 21. Mauritania was definitely faster.

During WWII my Father crossed the Atlantic on the Mauritania. It sailed unescorted because of it’s speed.

even if she lost, she turned out better than her sister, the titanic. of course, that would be hard to top.

If I remember correctly, the Lusitania was a sister to the Mauritania but was sunk because she didn’t run all of her boilers and therefore was down on speed.
