On this topic, Mairdie, if you have access to Netlix, I recommend the Netflix original, "The Ballad of Roscor Scruggs", a series of old west vignettes.
Pay attention to the one about the guy with no arms and legs that is taken from town to town like a travelling side show. He just sits there and speaks part of famous speeches and writings. It's treated by the town folk as if they were going to the movies.
