Aren’t most Central Americans descendants of the Aztecs?
I have read books about how over the top cruel the Aztecs and Incas were when it was time to make a sacrifice for good crops that year.
Perhaps the capacity for and the tolerance of latent barbarity still remains in their DNA.

Without bothering to research anything, I'll say that I believe that the Incas dominated South America, with the Mayans dominating Central America and southern Mexico, and the Aztecs, who were based out of what is now Mexico City, dominating central Mexico. So, barring hundreds of years of migration, the caravan vs. TJ would be Mayans vs Aztecs.

The Mayans preceded the Incas and Aztecs and none of them were very very nice people. They took great pleasure in raiding neighboring cities and those they didn't kill they brought back for torture and sacrifices..........

On one of my vacations to Honduras, we spent a whole day at the Mayan ruins in Copan with a local guide who was able to explain everything we saw there and the methods of human sacrifices was especially brutal. It was a fascinating tour......
