Typical average is 1,500 to 2,000 Euro, and if you were pretty stupid....toss on another 1,000.

But what’s not mentioned here is that the police will not hand the license back until you take a ‘refresher’ course from some driving instructor. I’d take a guess that there’s another 500 Euro minimum to be spent to accomplish this.

This cost factor is something that all of the new immigrants complain about. A lot of young Germans used to wait until they got drafted and sent off to the Army...and they’d get free training and a chance to get their license that way.

Thanks for correctig my thinking, pepsionice! I put my wife and daughter through Driving School here in southern Germany. They both completed the course in record time (i.e., needed more attempts than practically anyone else). Put me back a pretty penny.
