The 18-year-old was returning from his successful driving test when officers in the town of Hemer checked his car with a laser speed gun.
"Some things last for ever - others not for an hour," German police wrote in their statement.
He is also facing a 200 fine, two points on his licence once it is restored, and his probationary period as a new driver has been lengthened from two years to four.

Thanks for correctig my thinking, pepsionice! I put my wife and daughter through Driving School here in southern Germany. They both completed the course in record time (i.e., needed more attempts than practically anyone else). Put me back a pretty penny.

Some US states will yank the license of anyone under 18 involved in an accident, whether at fault or not. That’s a pretty tough standard by today’s norms.
