A bunch, for sure. (The Poison Belt wasn’t nearly as good.)
Doyle was a great writer, and his works will continue to entertain people for ages.................
That must also be why I read about Sentinel Island just last week. Spent about a half hour wandering around the internet learning what I could about the locals.
As long as people read, anyway. Sometimes I have my doubts how long that might be.
You know, like a guy from a Patagonia catalog.
Just my impression... sorry the experience for him had to be so final that he couldn't benefit from learning anything.
Indeed.
I don't remember that Conan-Doyle's story was specific as to which of the Andaman Island Tonga was from.
Don’t think he ever said in the story.
Just Johnathan Small was at the siege of Agra and ended up in a penal colony in the Andaman’s.
I think the Japanese invaded them at one point, but, not sure off the top of my head.
Where is the kill all the heathen argument in this thread?
I think you have defeated the straw man.
Good Call.
He gave his life for his faith.........
I’m surprised no one has mentioned the thing that really bugs me. There are 7 of those tribal natives that are under arrest for the murder of that missionary.
How can a country deliberately isolate an indigenous group, keeping them in darkness spiritually and physically. Then, all of the sudden apply modern civilized laws upon these men or women who have never even conceived such a thing?
(Note: The fact that they are not yet disease resistant, shouldn’t prevent them from being slowly, and medically soundly being introduced into modern life, with a host of medical and physical advances that would reduce their death by accident or illness in isolation.)
No, the fisherman who transported them to the island are under arrest. Indian authorities don’t go near the place, nor should anyone. Leave those people alone. There’s literally no reason to go there.
From the article:
“Police have registered a case of murder and seven accused persons have been arrested.”
Sjw? Should have had an AR and a chest of beads....
14745.6 acres, formerly two islands, but the crust shifted up due to the 2004 Boxing Day earthquake/tsunami, adding to the size of the main island and joining the islet to it; history of very intermittent contact (Tamil Chola dynasty 11th c, Maratha Empire 17th c, British Empire 18th c to 20th).

North Sentinel Island real footage. The most dangerous tribe in the world.
(uh, I thought *we* were the most dangerous tribe in the world...)
The glorioua irony of a missionary winning a Darwin Award.
