I nearly lost Mr. RightField to an ecoli infection in 2012. He had a strain that attacked the kidneys. I spent 48 wondering if I was going to be a widow. The doctors told me they had to ‘culture’ his strain which would take 48 hours. During that time he was on cipro. Now I wonder if that regimen contributed to his kidney failure. At almost exactly 48 hours after he entered the ER, a nurse came in with a specific treatment for his strain and he started to recover within 2 hours of getting that medicine. But, he’s been at 30% kidney function ever since. Scary stuff.

Wow...scary indeed. That must have been horrifying for you. Glad he’s better, but what a shame losing so much kidney function.
