1994-2017 - 23 years - $1500+ per month. I dont know how the other poster came up with 17 years. The mother COULD have had a very good paying job OR she could have put off retiring until later instead of taking SS at age 65 - that choice added considerably to some retirees monthly benefit before the age was changed.

Absolutely true - how come none of us thought of that? It didn’t even cross my mind. I guess we can assume her husband was deceased or the son wouldn’t have been receiving her SS benefits...
