IIRC in the 70’s cop flick “Fort Apache The Bronx”, police officers kissed their family members goodbye every day before going on shift. Didn’t know if they would see them again.

There would be far fewer thugs wanting to wear the jackboots.
I’m no cop hater. I admire the good ones. Only problem is not enough good ones to go around.
Then there are the ones who get into law enforcement because they have a political agenda.
Those are the ones who will gladly kick in your door to serve the progressive agenda.
