Just a couple hours ago in Mountain View on the Charleston Slough looking west at the Santa Cruz Mountains. No matter how bad this is, it's nothing to what the people in the mountains are suffering.

The great annual migration on the Pacific Flyway is underway and there were thousands of ducks, egrets, pelicans, stilts, godwits, stilts, sandpipers, cormorants, and other birds on the slough today. At least it was nice seeing all the birds.

A request for all you heartless people mouthing off here. For once, try to show some compassion for people who lost everything in the fires. We have several friends in Paradise who have fortunately not lost their houses or loved ones. The stories they tell of neighbors who were unable to get out are absolutely heart breaking. Neighbors are all pitching in and helping; what are you doing to HELP? California is still full of good conservative people, especially in the foothills and mountains. I wouldn't even wish this on the most miserable liberal person I know. Try to remember what your mothers taught you -- "if you don't have anything nice to say..."

With all due respect, it looks to me like none of the comments are directed towards such people, but rather towards the politicians of the city in the headline who are reacting (and possibly overreacting) to smoke generated three hundred miles away.
