I’d suggest you use a piece of soft wire or clothesline, form/tie a loop under the branches close to the bottom of the tree, then run the wire/rope up along the trunk toward the top repeating the loop every 18 inches or so. (I’d say that 3 of those loops total should be about right...)

At the top of the tree you can run the wire/rope up as far as you want for a final loop to go around a hook or nail in the rafter.

If you’ve got a problem with wind you can add another piece of wire/rope from the base of the tree to the ground/deck.

(This would be more clear with a sketch, but I’m afraid that it’s a bit late in the day to dope out all the html games I’d have to play....)

Thank you!!! You just confirmed my idea....I have most of the ties on the tree. I already found my wire and ready to finish the project tomorrow. I feel so much better knowing someone else has my idea. I did take the top off of the tree and plan to take the heavy stand off as well. That will make the tree lighter. I have my hook ready as well. Thank you so much!
