Correct. I have visited a Central American country on several occasions. The middle-class neighborhood homes are all walled in and gated — almost every single house. Jutting out of the top these walls are different colored shards of broken glass bottles embedded within the top of the walls. This acts as a poor man’s barbed wire. I mean it’s everywhere.

And we are voluntarily importing the lower end of these societies and think this is a great idea.

Yes very common in Mexico and Guatemala, I suspect El Salvador and Honduras are the same. Never been inside one but looking thru that metal bar gate some of those homes are very nice with the home being built around a beautiful central courtyard. But I an talking about only 20% to 30% of homes.
