I was ‘in and out’ of there late 50s and homeported from 60-62.

Not too many ships at that time, don’t believe a carrier was homeported BUT the SHTF for ‘regulars’ when a bird farm showed up with all her escorts...

Good time for my LST to be out bouncing around on the high seas or hitting some of the ‘backwater’ ports of Japan and such...

Yokosuka was the main SRF with Sasebo taking some of it and then Subic Bay on the ‘other end’.

Great times for a kid right out of school...learn life real fast....HA HA

We visited that area on my 2 WESTPACs from ‘93-’97 on the Peleliu. Been to Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Manilla and Perth. Good times.
My Chief told us to drink the brown beer, not the green beer because it had formaldehyde in it.

Yeah, my color blindness really screwed me up that night in Thailand. Thought I’d NEVER stop puking.
