A couple years ago, my town had a tie for a City Council Seat. (because my kid forgot to vote)

The City didn’t have a mechanism to resolve a tie and weren’t sure what to do.

I suggested to the Mayor that a duel in the town square using airsoft guns would be appropriate. He liked the idea but didn’t think it would fly.

Naturally, they chose the most difficult path. Mayor appoints, Council Advise and consent which took six-eight months to reach a conclusion.

A friend of mine is mayor of a similar size city. They flip a coin for a tie.
