I'd be willing to bet that any documents connected to the incident disappeared long ago for reasons that aren't difficult to imagine.
As I said earlier I have some familiarity with Harvard Square and I also worked at one of Harvard Medical School's major teaching hospitals for years. These facts surely don't make me an expert on the "Harvard mindset" but I've been exposed to it enough to know that arrogance, haughtiness and a sense of superiority is found in more than a few people affiliated with that school.
Heres a couple of sources still in the system:

What they dont go into is the why as to his arrest. I specifically remember that an article I read stated that while they were inside the house, the body mike on Crowleys uniform was unable to pick up language due to reverb. He asked Gates to step out so they could converse and it could be recorded so Crowley could have everything involving the actions at the location. Gates refused for the longest time while continuing to verbally attack Crowley with allegations of racial actions until he finally went outside. Outside where a group of neighbors was starting to form, Gates escalated the attack to the point of referencing Crowleys mother, which is on record, in what could easily be, and I personally believe with his history, was an effort to incite the crowd against Crowley which could have placed he officer in a dangerous position.
Gates was never arrested for burglary or breaking and entering. He was arrested for disorderly conduct. If he had kept his mouth shut, looked at the situation of a campus police officer being called to investigate a possible break in, especially at his house, and had complied with the officers request to get him identified and, possibly, assisted, he would not have had a problem. But instead he let his attitude and position on race, which is all he has ever done in life, for Yale and Cornell, overshadow his common sense of taking care of a problem.
Gates has a BA degree in history at Yale College. The rest of his degrees to my knowledge are honorary, 53 of them. And every one is related to race.
