10 takeaways from a survive-and-advance Saturday in college football

Ten takeaways from a survive-and-advance Saturday in college football: 1. All playoff contenders coming into the weekend remain College Football Playoff contenders coming out of the weekend. The top 10 teams in the selection committee rankings, plus undefeated No. 12 Central Florida, all won. The closest escape was No. 6 Oklahoma by a point over unranked Oklahoma State, in a defense-optional Bedlam game in Norman. The Sooners gave up 47 points and 640 yards to the 5-5 Cowboys, but produced 48 points and 702 yards of their own. They held for the win when Mike Gundy’s Holgorsen Moment failed — opting against a tying kick, Gundy went for two but a Taylor Cornelius pass for the lead with 1:03 left was well behind an open Tylan Wallace. Even by Oklahoma’s porous defensive standards, this was alarming — the yards allowed were the most this season, and perhaps the most allowed by the Sooners in Memorial Stadium. The points allowed were the most at home since Oklahoma State scored 48 six years ago.

Everybody talks about THE Ohio State University needing to improve their running game and defense all year long. Week 11 just finished and there has been no improvement. THE Ohio State University did beat Sparty in game that devolved football to 1978 but they are who they can throw the football and that is about it./half sarcasm on/I am very disappointed in Michigan. Not only did they not cover the 40 point spread against Rutgers, not only did they allow Rutgers offense to cross the 50 yard line, they gave up an offensive TD./half sarcasm off/ If Harbaugh does not beat Meyer this year he should just pack his things up and head back to the NFL. Whatever one can say about the Big 12 = 10 they sure put on entertaining video like football games. In a thrilling Bedlam, the Pokes almost pulled off the upset at Norman. The game showed the nation Oklahoma's defense is still putrid. I grew up when Oklahoma had defensive stalwarts like Tony Casillas and The Boz. Those days are long gone. 'Bama can kill you like a big cat with a quick death or a slow death like an anaconda. Just as against LSU, one could of turned off the TV once 'Bama scored its first TD. Florida State got a beating at South Bend. That game was over during the 1st qtr. Auburn v. UGa was a viable game until UGa put the game out of reach in the earth 4th qtr. Clemson put away Boston College, who scored no offensive TDs, in the early 3rd qtr. Massachusetts native Clemson DL Christian Wilkins marked his return to New England by knocking the Boston College QB out of the game. That hit would have probably drawn a flag in the NFL as he landed on the QB with his full weight. Meet your Big 10 = 14 Western Conference champs Northwestern! Northwestern lost all their non-conference games.

No chaos.

Three conference champs (Big 10, Big 12, and Pac 12) vying for one playoff spot.

As to The Ohio State University, their playoff hopes died when they were steam rolled three weeks ago in a northwestern Indiana cornfield. As an OSU alum, I welcome their demise to hasten Urban Meyer out the door.He is a hypocritical ass.

The Oklahoma/WVU game in two weeks looms larger and larger.

I will be disappointed if Will Grier does not throw for 500 yards against the Sooners.

Cal/USC score did not reflect how one-sided Cal’s victory really was.

When Notre Dame puts a beating on USC that should be the end of Clay Helton.

The winner will likely get Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.

The only way that will happen is if Sills stops dropping Grier’s passes.

I wonder if Holgersun will use that platform to announce a move to the NFL? He’s pretty much set himself up in a role similar to that of an NFL head coach here at WVU this year.

Roccus is NOT the Morgantown Medusa’s biggest fan...by a long shot.
