That would have been a wonderful idea! We could have had a bad economy and still have California wildfires at the same time. /sarc

"Global warming" may be yet another reason that they are avoiding the controlled burning that is critical to preventing these wildfires. It's possible to clear land other ways, but many times more expensive and restricted anyway due to water quality regulations.

I'll say this about global warming though. Looking through a couple thousand years of fire history (charcoal layers) and temperature from proxies, the cooler it is, the more fires there are. That because when it is cooler it is rainier and windier.
