My old home district that had been Republican for about a billion years flipped ugly blue this time around. Dang those west coast refugees!

“Dang those west coast refugees! ”

You don’t think it has anything to do with all the illegal Invaders?

I escaped mexifornia. Texas isn’t much better as far as feeling like you’re not in the US.

From time to time, Texas has had an influx of many other people from other states for jobs. Over the past few years, Texas accomodated very large numbers of people who originated on the west coast and in the northeast.

It's a new generation of voters raised on celebrities and E! and TMZ and the Kardashians. Beatoff O'Rourke is cool. All the cool kids like him. If you don't like Beatoff, then you aren't cool. If you don't like Beatoff, your Facebook "friends" will unfriend you.

My county has been controlled by Dems since it was established in 1885. There was no local government from 1836 until then.

This election is the first where all the ballots were won by Republicans. (excluding 2 that were unopposed Dems.)

Beto got almost NO votes.

I’ve been a Republican since my wife and I married. Right after we graduated from college. We’ve been married 47 years. We were away from my place of birth for 25 years, until 1995 when we moved back.

You hit it right on the head. The Dem cancer in Calif is spreading throughout the country, AZ, NV, NM and now even Tx. Those a-holes move away from high taxes and stifling government which they have voted for only to again vote the same way at their new place. Lived in AZ for a while and had new neighbors who moved from CA, complained about CA, but voted for the same things they ran away from. Liberalism is truly a mental illness.

You are actually pretty much spot-on. As have more Western states been shifting from red, to purple, to ever-more blue because of the escaped Left-wing Californians... they have infiltrated Texas - beginning in more liberal strongholds like Austin and Houston, and are now overflowing into the suburban areas (in the process, they are buying up property and trying to change customs, laws, and practices of the freedom-loving Texans.

It’s a dumbing down of the electorate through the education system and media brainwashing. Combine this with freeloading illegals and it’s a lot to fight against.

"Counties that haven’t voted for a Democrat in decades turned out for Beto O’Rourke in his unsuccessful bid to unseat U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, and he picked up enough support in ruby red Republican counties to force Cruz into single-digit wins."

Those same ruby red counties voted for Gov Greg Abbott by commanding margins.

Texas isn't going blue (just yet). The real cause of Ted's narrow win was Ted. He only got into the race at the eleventh hour, and is still carrying the stain of shame from the 2016 primary.

I’ll have 70 years here in Texas in two more years, let me just pass on what I’ve seen. Suburbia as some like to call it is not what it used to be. Some of these towns have sucked in everything around them until it’s all become one. Houston, DFW, San Antonio, Austin and El Paso. There was a time when You could actually tell you were leaving one town and entering the next now it’s just a sign change. They’ve become nothing but huge urban anthills and just like anthills they have entrances in several locations around the perimeter. As the community expands they just dig a new entrance leading back to the main colony.
