When Meehan asked the flight crew for an explanation, he said they told him that cleaning the mess wasnt their responsibility and that they were busy getting ready for departure.
If you want, you can get off the plane and talk to somebody, he said he was told.
The gate agent called a manager, whom Meehan described as confrontational.
I tell her what happened and she said, If the cleaning crew didnt do their job, thats not my problem. What do you want me to do about it? Meehan said.
The airlines have come to resemble a government agency. Their service is poor, their employees don't care and the agency knows the public will keep funding it.

I was on a flight from DFW to ATL, Delta when they hubbed out of DFW. Short time after takeoff a hefty, past her prime blonde across the aisle, opened a bottle and started cleaning her fingernails with polish remover. Are you kidding me? This is not the place for that, I told her. She just glared at me and continued. The stewardess just said there was nothing she could do about it. The Delta office assured me during a later phone call that polish remover was not allowed to be opened on board the aircraft. People are sometimes very stupid.
