My instant reaction was almost certainly wrong. Sessions was the best that Trump could get through a wobbly Senate (remember, 52-47). Now Trump is free to name a barracuda as Attorney General.
In fact if I recall correctly, Sessions sort of had to agree to recuse in order to get the votes.
