I think Texas has the best. If you grew up in Electronic Paso I’m sure you agree. It’s Tex-Mex. In California you can find good Mexican food, but a lot of restaurants try to make it exotic or something, so you have to look for a good place. We spent Christmas one year in LG country, and I remember a wonderful Mexican dinner there.
OTOH, I have a hard time finding Indian and Greek food here. In this town one Indian restaurant, if it hasn’t gone out of business, and no Greek. Good country fried steak, BBQ, Mexican.

I’m partial to the new Mexican food I guess, having grown up with it in El Paso. The best food came from the less pretentious restaurants, with real Mexican Cooks. Of course these days that’s all you can find. But you are right, California tries to dress things up. Again, the best food came from the least pretentious places. The taco trucks in San Diego had great carne asada burritos.

I miss good German food. But I don’t miss the Basque food in Bakersfield!

I don’t think I know Greek food though.
