With a clap, you no longer need to sacrifice oxygen for safety. You can hide under the blankets and continue to breathe just fine, even if there ie a fart under the covers!
Everyone I know who uses a CPAP love them except me. I tried one for 9 months with 96% usage, and still could not make it all night with the mask still on.
Good luck. I really hope it works for you.
Have had mine for 2 years, nothing but positive results. Easily got used to the sound, as did my wife. Don’t have the huge headset, don’t know if that adjustment is difficult.
Have used a CPAP for 20 years without problem. Have traveled internationally and even gone camping with my CPAP. Can’t sleep without it. Be sure you have a comfortable mask that is well fitted. There are many mask types...a good CPAP store will help you find and fit the mask for you. Have your CPAP pressure checked periodically and keep the mask and hose clean and filters replaced. Use it every time you sleep..your life depends on it.
For just a second I thought the headline read:
CRAP - Good or Bad?
Get the heater, use distilled water only, clean at minimum weekly. My wife uses soap, hot water and then white vinger. Change your heater settings depending on season. You might consider a hose insulation tube which helps if you get rain out. I place mine on a small stool beside the bed lower than my mattress.
I got the ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet CPAP Machine with Heated Humidifier.
It almost makes me want to go to bed and give it a try now.
I am curious if anyone has any comments, good or bad about using a CPAP machine.
been using one since 1999 ... get an autocpap with humidifier option ... the top of the line ones are:
Philips Respironics DreamStation Auto CPAP
and
ResMed AirSense 10 AutoSet CPAP Machine with Heated Humidifier
Use a full-face mask if you wake up with a totally dried out mouth ... which means your mouth is popping open when you are asleep and all the pressurized air is blowing out your mouth and not propping open your throat ...
My wife and I, use one. Works well. My Son, SIL and my daughter both use them. My daughter is a Nurse Practicioner and works for a Sleep center Dr. So I guess its all in the family so to speak.
I used to be exhausted a lot. I got a machine last year. It took a few weeks to get used to it. Now even if I get a short night’s sleep I feel okay during the next day.
if you are a mouth breather, get the mask that fits over your nose and mouth. also the nasal pillows type mask moves around if you are a side sleeper or a restless sleeper. I can’t sleep without mine now! Good luck - you’re going to be so amazed!!
I use CPAP. It is well worth the trouble.
But it drove me crazy having to clean it so often.
The best thing in the world for cleaning it is something called “SO CLEAN”.

You don’t have to wash anything. This machine cleans it all. Once you have it set up, it is a snap to use it.
Best of luck with the CPAP.
I have that one and it is so easy to manage! Make sure you download their app and you can check your sleep score each morning. that will help you figure out if you are mouth breathing, etc.
You may have to go through a mask or two to find one that you can live with, but get ready for an amazing sleep experience.
My GF alerted me to my possible sleep apnea. I got tested, and sure enough... First night after using the machine I felt more rested than I had in years. Some nights though, I can not tolerate the thing. No pattern to it. New machines are very quiet, too. Rub your nose good before you put the mask on. Check cpap.com for every mask configuration you can imagine. Nighty-night!
Took a few weeks to get used ro, but now cant sleep without. Game changer too in alertness and stamina during the day.
Sleep apnea isn’t caused by lungs not being “cleared”.
Best thing you can get if you need it. Night and day
I have no problem with mine. Going on 5 years. Added benefit is filtered air during allergy season and when it gets cold you can pull the covers over your head.
They only count "events" (No chest movement) lasting 10 seconds or more. My blood oxygen level was 68-70%. The tech doing the study told me that because of this my brain was having to scavenge oxygen that would normally be helping power my metabolism.
With my CPAP my blood oxygen level is consistently in the 93-95% range. It made a huge difference in my life.
Major improvement in my life.
