Okay Mr. Plain Text, answer this for me: why is the clause "and subject to the jurisdiction thereof" included in the 14th Amendment? I mean, if the 14th Amendment conveyed citizenship to anyone simply born here, that clause would not be necessary, would it?

One cannot be subject to jurisdiction
if one is illegal. They are subject to
the jurisdictions of the countries of
which they are citizens.
