Wasn’t it Erich Fromm in AN INSANE SOCIETY who asserted that in an insane society, only the insane are sane? I think some forms of humor qualify in such a context. At least the humor affords some hanging hooks & straps for a semblance of stability on the constantly jostling & twisting rail cars.
