Venice is a tough city for the mobility disabled.
Weve been to Venice twice, both times in late September. Thankfully the weather was beautiful and sunny both times.
What a disappointment to the international tourists who are there right now, with 75% of the city being flooded. Venice is a beautiful mysterious city when it isnt five feet under water, yikes.
Actually the entire country of Italy is bad for disabled people. There is no ADA law there where anyone can sue a city or a business for not accomodating the disabled.
The second time we went to Venice we stayed in a very nice four star hotel which had no elevator. We were on the fifth floor and the main staircase was very steep, narrow and winding.
I was in despair at the thought of hauling my 45 pound suitcase up and the stairs. I was also afraid of Mr RooRoo throwing his back out carrying my suitcase. Hes no wimp but he is 63 yesrs old.
No worries, the desk clerk rang for bag assistance, and immediately this huge magnificently muscled African young man appeared. He hoisted my heavy suitcase on the back of his shoulders and easily climbed the five stories worth of stairs. I admired his muscles and Mr RooRoo gave him a big tip LOL.
I know. Lots of walking. And thats mainly what he cant do. Sigh
Venice was founded by people seeking refuge from the barbarian hordes running rampant all over Italy.
