Wouldn’t even have to go to France.


Well, I wouldn’t mind going to France—I hear the food is pretty good. But the idea of going to Lascaux just see a “really good” simulation of the real thing wouldn’t do it for me. Webcams would be much better, but maybe webcams would deteriorate the paintings too.

As an aside, I collect ancient coins—Greek and Roman. One of the nice things about ancients is that you don’t have to handle them by the edges like more modern coins. They have survived for millennia and won’t be damaged by the collector’s mere touch.

I so love ancient coins.
Have a few.
Not very many.
It is so meaningful, to me, to touch and turn over in your hand something that existed in the Roman Empire, B.C.
