Game 3 was the 12th World Series game to go 12 innings and the fourth World Series Game to go 14 innings. It is the only World Series game to go 18 innings. Here are the longest World Series games in history by innings played:
2018 Game 3: Red Sox vs. Dodgers still playing in the 18th inning.
1916 Game 2: (Brooklyn) Dodgers beat Red Sox 2-1 in 14 innings.
2005 Game 3: White Sox beat Astros 7-5 in 14 innings.
2015 Game 1: Royals beat Mets 5-4 in 14 innings.
Furthermore, Game 3 is also the longest World Series game by time of game and it's not close either. Game 3 is already over the eight-hour mark as of this writing.
Here are the longest World Series games in history by time of game:
2018 Game 3: Red Sox vs. Dodgers in eight hours and counting.
2005 Game 3: White Sox vs. Astros in five hours and 41 minutes.
2017 Game 5: Dodgers vs. Astros in five hours and 17 minutes.
2015 Game 1: Royals vs. Mets in five hours and nine minutes.
2000 Game 1: Yankees vs. Mets in four hours and 51 minutes.
Does anyone care about pace of play during a very exciting World Series game? Didn't think so.
Before that the bases were loaded, there was a hot grounder to first base...... the Boston first baseman quickly fired to the catcher at home plate forcing the runner coming home. The catcher then threw back to first for the double play.
The ball hit the runner. THE RUNNER WAS CLEARLY RUNNING TO FIRST BASE ..... IN FAIR TERRITORY.
I played and have followed baseball for over 65 years. I always was rather SURE that the runner could not run to first base in FAIR TERRITORY and interfere with the catcher's throw. If he did so and got hit with a throw from the catcher like tonight ........ he was an automatic out.
What the hell happened with that call? The runner/hitter should have been called out.
Any opinions?
If that call was made correctly the Dodgers would not have scored at all in that inning.
Tied !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
.
Here we go again.

Yes .......... this game has gotten very good very quickly.
That’s what I was thinking-—I only made it to 1:30 EDT—no more,please.:-)
.
I can’t answer that question-—sorry,my baseball knowledge is not as extensive as yours. (One of my sons could, though)
.
By definition the basepath is a line from where the runner starts his run to the base with a three foot lane on either side of that line. Its a misconception that the chalk line is the basepath.
The Dodgers just seem mentally...not on their game right now. :(

I never knew that. But just to be sure, I'm going to look it up.
I played this game for money many years ago and I must say I never heard of that "rule."
I have however over the years seen dozens of runners called out running to first base slightly in fair territory, after getting drilled in the back with the ball by the catcher. Many times the catcher DRILLED THE RUNNER ON PURPOSE --- automatic out.
I'll check out what you wrote, and thanks for that for now.
Great game now,

Running Lane to First Base —— (I think that you were wrong with your explanation.)
The Dodgers are taking the pipe!

Old LIB HISTORIAN Doris Kearns Goodwin is smiling.
He is one weird dude.
Sure is a strange one-—one more out to go. Whew!
.
Steve Pearce had one helluva night.
Congrats to all Boston baseball fans ....... one more to go.
Do you want to win it at home, or do you just want to get it over with tomorrow night?
(get it over with.)
I am NOT a gambler-——win it tomorrow——come home for the parade.
