Nowhere in that song is Humpty referred to as an egg. Using that logic we can infer that The Way We Were is really a secret ballad Streisand is singing to her 3 legged hermaphroditic billygoat lover from her lonely teen years?

The "Humpty Dumpty" that inspired the poem is said to have been a huge artillery piece used to defend the royalist stronghold of Colchester when it came under siege by parliamentary forces in 1648, during the English Civil War. When a cannon ball from the parliamentary side silenced it by knocking it from its perch, the royalists (the king's horses and men) were unable to put it back into operation.
