The change in the Democrat Party over the past 25 years cannot be made more clear than to read this scholarly article by what was a senior US Senator / Harvard Professor / Ambassador and immediate predecessor of Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) [2001-07]! Moynihan may have been the last or one of the last centrist Democrat politicians and the movement of that party to the far LEFT is illustrated by this monograph that is still very much worth reading!

Well worth re-reading and to realize how far Moynihan's beloved Democrat Party has departed from his views expressed here!
Moynihan was not centrist at all, he was a proud leftie.
But he was a reasonably honest one, possibly the last reasonably honest one in the USA.
I recognize what you are saying but to the Democrat Left like Bernie Sanders & Ocasio-Cortez, reading this would put him next to Hitler. Remember, they pride themselves on NOT RECOGNIZING historical context!
His Senate seat was defined down, that’s for sure. Defiled too.
That was the weirdest election for Hillary ever. Moynihan would not endorse her and then they had a private conversation in his home, remember the 900 FBI files, and he came out and endorsed her.
There was blackmail involved I will bet on that.
