The president of a university students' union has been criticised for saying a mural in memory of First World War soldiers should be 'painted over' because it displays only 'white men'.
Emily Dawes, the head of the University of Southampton Students' Union, provoked outrage when she referred to the university's Rotherstein Mural as a 'mural of white men' and called for it to be taken down.
She tweeted: 'Mark my words - we're taking down the mural of white men in the uni Senate room, even if I have to paint over it myself.'
Both she and the students' union have since apologised for her comments after she was accused of abusing the free speech the soldiers fought and died to protect.

Skin color seems to be your trigger, noob! Grab a paint brush and run out and paint your all inclusive mural. No one will stop you.
All she will have to do is become a college professor..job for life, and continuing to spew leftist ideology.
Stupid child. Do something useful with your life.
Not sure I am understanding.
I think the solution of adding an additional (SECOND) mural that pays homage to the veterans that served in WWI is actually a great idea.
And I also think that it is completely acceptable to recognize that the UK had many people from many varied back grounds that served, fought, were injured or died for their country way of life and ultimately all of our freedoms.
Many put on the uniform, served and died. They ALL bled red.
if my “trigger” is accepting and acknowledging that MANY brave people sacrificed and should be duly celebrated and remembered...
Mea culpa
I'm sure she'd prefer not to procreate with a white man.
Mrs. JimRed and I had lunch in a newly renovated restaurant near us yesterday. One of the items of nautical and beach-oriented décor is a full-wall mural of a beach, apparently around the turn of the century (1900 or so). There were a number of horse drawn carriages, buggies and wagons on the sand, and people enjoying the sunshine and water. Looking closer, every individual whose features can be seen is white. Being that it is located in a moderately diverse area I wonder, how long it will be until there is a complaint that it is a racist mural?
