I remember when I was a kid I though “Killer Queen” was about a secret agent lady.

I remember when I was much much younger and this fruit basket entered the scene, I didn’t know anything about gay, trans, bi or anything else of that sort...But I remember seeing him on TV once and thinking as a very young man, “that boy is a few biscuits short of a picnic.”

I knew there was something wrong with him, I just didn’t know what it was, never cared for his music or him. But now we all know what was wrong with him.

There seems to be some madness in some super creative people, “artists” in many forms. Not all, but some. They leave legacies of mixed reviews - great art, horribly tragic and tortured lives.

The best we can do is enjoy the art, and admit the negatives of their personal life.

Actually, there were people in the bible like that as well. King David comes to mind - a man “whom G-d loved” and who loved G-d, and who also took another man’s wife (Bathsheba) and after that women conceived David’s child, David sent that man (Uriah) off to be killed in war.

No I am not comparing David and Freddie Mercury.

I am just saying “greatness” in particular wasys does not always come in nice neat and “pure” packages.

Yes, Freddie Mercury did not have an exemplary personal life that ought to be praised.

But people are and can be rightly moved by his music.

Bohemian Rhapsody was written and recorded LONG before AIDS was known to exist.

Yeah, that one.

Lots of people say that it’s doing something great with something simple, I KNOW that “The Edge” is better than that but it was disappointing overall and not backed up with other songs that follow the same formula - telling me that it’s just sorta phoned in.

OH the dude could sing, no doubt. Jim Morrison could sing too.

Miley Cyrus can sing.

That doesn’t make them great overall musicians, and their song writing is pedantic at best.

Appetite for young boys according to some stories.

What stories are those?

Could be true. It was the 70s. They were all heathens back then. Even conservative favorite Ted Nugent. He might've been sober but he was banging out 14-year old groupies faster than Jimmy Page.

The only good song Queen had was Fat Bottomed Girls. The rest.....just never understood the appeal.

My favorites

Dragon Attack
Bohemian Rhapsody
I Want to Break Free
Don’t Try Suicide
It’s Late
Killer Queen
Need Your Loving Tonight
Somebody to Love
Dragon Attack

The whole album “News of The World” I had it in 8 track

The guy dies of AIDS. If they showed him as a hedonistic pleasure seeker who slept with anything that moved but mostly men, then he died of AIDS in the end the gaystapo would have gone insane. So of course they showed him as a kind hearted homebody who caught a tough break.

I'm only surprised they didn't imply that he got a paper cut and had a transfusion that turned out to be tainted and he got AIDS in spite of all his safe sex with a kind hearted man he was in a committed relationship with.

Ray was great cause they showed him going through his heroine problem. The johnny cash watered him down too.
Mercury was to sex like orson welles was to food.

He did 100% of the arrangement including the vocal arrangement for Bohemian Rhapsody, a song many people like.

Say what you will about Mercury the man. He was as bad as sinners get.

But his voice was as good as any human can produce.
