Firefighters battled flames at the First Baptist Church in Wakefield, roughly 15 miles north of Boston, as the Wakefield Police Department tweeted that the blaze was an active fire.

A 150 year old church is going to be made of wood.
Very dry, old wood.
I’ll bet it went up in seconds.

I was in on a fire look this. Far from home on a motorcycle trip and could see the smoke miles away. When I got to the town the roads were blocked and I rode on the shoulder up to the deputy and told him I was a firefighter. He waved me through. I didn’t have a turnout so they had me driving a tanker to the next town to get water and dump it in a holding tank. The town well couldn’t keep up. Hottest fire I’d ever been to. I would back the tanker up to the tank and run back and open the valve. With no turnout the hear was nearly unbearable. I’d open it and immediately run around the truck ro where I was cooler.
Doesn’t look wooden to me.

Hmm. Lightning 15 miles away from Fenway Park where the world series is playing out as we speak.
I know who Lou Christie is, and grew up in the 60s. I am missing this one... Help a brother out. What is going on here?
Hit song — Lightning Strikes
Lightning striking again...
I saw an old wooden building in a small Upstate NY town on fire one time.
What an inferno!
I can imagine you were pretty uncomfortable.
Oliver Goldsmith would like to know if the Vicar was hurt?
What would a Vicar have to do with a Baptist Church on fire?
The Vicar was a arsonist?
The town was named Wakefield, so the FReeper who posted it made an erudite reply referencing a book that English Lit majors read, but probably nobody else.
If you want to read Goldsmith, read his play "She Stoops to Conquer." The gags are still funny.
Probably nothing. My comment was a general inquiry to the Freepers as to who took “literature” courses in High School
and/or College. It should be considered as a “funny”.
Recommend a Goggle search on the author OLiver Goldsmith or
the novel he wrote “The Vicar of Wakefield”.
I took it as Bad Blood between the Baptist and the Catholics in Massachuetts.
God not happy with them?
