Lucky for me, I live in one of those states.

I think that it is ridiculous that winners should be publicized. There are way too many problems with that, from leeching relatives to strangers who would scam them for everything.

I’ve got an idea on how to somewhat protect your privacy. The minute you win, legally change your name (it would probably take about two months to finalize) to something like John Smith or Jane Smith. Collect your prize and then go back to court and change your name back to the original.

I agree, but I think the attitude of the lottery officials is they want the PR of showing big winners at lottery press conferences. I would certainly want to remain anonymous if I ever won something big (not that I play the lottery anyway, ha ha).
