I think there is a place for the militia, but the focus should be ordinary people. This is a propaganda operation on their side, and needs to be met with a counter narrative.

Lots of kids, actual young American citizens. Lots of average Americans dressed in normal clothes. No visible guns, no cammo-clad militia guys.

All that stuff is counter productive. If we need the security they should be discretely near by with an agreed strategy that they talk to no one.

The MSM wants:

What we should give them is a Trump rally. Official uniform of the protest: MAGA hats.

I think the best thing to do is to show our support for securing the border and ending illegal immigration. Be seen and heard, prove we are not Russian bots. Make it clear that we do not support people entering our country illegally.

It needs to be done in a way that does not interfere with Border Patrol, Customs, Military, or local law enforcement that will be working in the border area.
