I just saw parts of the Roy Orbison Hologram concert. It hit a personal note with me and Im going to make an effort to see it in person. When I was 14, my next door friends mom ((who I had a major crush on, the mom, not the friend) gave me a stack of old 45 rpm records. The first one I listened to was Blue Angel by Roy. I fell in love with oldies after that. I cant even remember any one of the other records in the stack.
Ten years later, I was working in Toronto and Roy used to play a free concert at Ontario Place every year. I kept kept promising myself I would go but never did. One day while driving to work, I heard on the radio that he had died. I know it sounds silly, but I called in sick and turned around and wept most of the day at home. Some cultural and music icons have the power to shape some directions in your life and he was one of them.
I had to google this to make sure you weren’t pulling our leg. I’ve never heard of such a thing. That’s pretty awesome. I hope they bring back some of my other favorites.
I had this idea about 20 years ago with the Beatles - its really happening now ?
The man was a performing genius.
Nobody can sing like that guy did nor will anybody ever. He was a freak, just one of those people that have such astounding talent you wonder if they are mutants. Probably one of the most moving songs I ever heard him sing was “In dreams” which I took as being about those people close to you who pass on and he had plenty. His wife and kids are one example.
Damn, how the hell do they do that?
If you love Roy,listen to Mystery Girl. Written for him by Bono of U2 believe it or not, but no one could sing this song like Roy Orbison. And Bono knew that too.
Can they give me one of these Hologram things so I can pretend Im at home ignoring my wife instead of being at the bar ignoring her?
Black and White Night is one of the best concerts Ive ever seen (not in person - Im not that important). The second place would the Bee Gees One Night Only concert.
I don't know, but the company that does most of it is Eyellusion:
I have read that Elvis thought Orbison had the best voice he had ever heard.
He really had a lot of tragedy in his life.
The scene in “Blue Velvet’ is scary. “A candy colored clown they call the sandman”.
“Beautiful Dreamer” was my Mother’s favorite song. Our Cousin, now deceased himself, sang it at her funeral. He had a fine tenor voice.
Roy's soul soared through his sweet and gentle voice.
Remembering the rocking chair scene:
Hard to belief how many of them are gone.
>>I have a sneaking suspicion that in a decade or two, hologram Elvis will be hawking discount tires in the automotive center of Wal-Mart. I’m not sure I’m ready to walk through my local store and seeing Einstein and Abraham Lincoln standing in the aisles telling me about the weekly specials.
On the plus side, it’ll mean more out of work leftist Hollywood actors.
