The Eagles folded in the fourth quarter of the actual game and lost in a lackluster performance, 21-17 - Jeffrey Lurie, team owner, had said that in hiring his new manager a few years back, he was looking for someone with “emotional IQ” as well as football skills - that manager, Doug Peterson, said after the game today that he had told his players that “the pressure is off of us - no one expects us to do that much any more” - he was apparently trying to protect the feelings of his players, but drew outrage from various commentators who interpreted his comments as a sign of giving up on the season - as one guy put it: “it comes time to stop powdered your players’ rearends and start kicking them” - could be all the emphasis on looking after the players’ needs and feelings and values is starting to get in the way of their doing their job - real professionals put aside their own concerns and dedicate themselves to doing what has to be done - time for the NFL to get on board.....
