Sorry to mess with your memories but Tony C. didn’t get to play in the ‘67 WS. He went down in Aug. ‘67 and was out for the season and a lot more, with that terrible pitch to the head/eye. Ken “Hawk” Harrelson and Jose Tartabull split RF duties after Harrelson was acquired in an August trade. Elston Howard was also acquired via trade down the stretch and did a lot of the catching.

What a year that was. Yaz, Lonborg & co. were tremendous. Triple Crown and MVP for Yaz, Cy Young for Lonborg. The Cardinal were a bit too much for them in the WS with Bob Gibson dominating 3 games, but still, it was a terrific season.

Guess this old mind is a little confused. I do remember Tony getting hit in the eye. It was a late night game on the west coast-right? I believe I was watching alone as everybody else went to bed. Guess I need to dig out my souveneir program from that Sox-Cardinal game to refresh my memory.

Like Kavanough”s detractor, I can’t remember where or when, but that year I attended a celebratory dinner where all the players mingled with the guests and I purchased a baseball signed by the players which I still have.
