I am so thankful, for the most part, my children were schooled in small communities and got a good education.
Oldest daughter sure saw the difference when she went to live with her dad in the big city for a short time.
She said her education was a joke during those years and she was so glad that what little being taught she had already covered in her small town learning.
Didn’t harm her but didn’t give her more than she had already received.
I sure noticed a dumbing down with the intro of Common Core to the classroom.
Thank you for recognizing that young man, I’m sure you made a real difference in his life.
I’m sure you’re more aware than most of what’s going on in classrooms, since you worked at a school. I kind of had an idea looking at my son’s books, but I really didn’t see how bad it was until I started to teach. I really wished all parents would get involved and see just how bad it is. But I’m sure most of them just assume things are going great and homeschooling is certainly a huge effort.
did you know SAT scores have been dumbed down as well? At least once, but maybe even twice. They change how they grade them now. So for those of us who took them years and years ago they have to see what year you took it and then they calculate what the new score would be. So my SATs are probably one or 200 points higher than I really got on them. And this never made it to the media. It just kind of quietly happened. That’s the kind of scary stuff that conservative groups need to get out there. I’m sure they tried at the time. I didn’t find out about it until I took the credentialing classes.
