When Moore started, Maury Povich was also popular - the kind of shocking, tabloid, funny-yet-conspiratorial journalism was still en-vogue and acceptable.
Moore never moved on from that, but people are not interested in that style any longer.

It’s a sad reality for the man who once considered himself General Motors’ greatest scourge, but, to steal a phrase, General Motors is alive and Michael Moore is dead. It might be more apt to recognize that GM was on life support briefly, in Chapter 11, in 2009.
