One must remember, true Americans believe in meritocracy! Those at the top of the ladder ( especially old money with old world connections) desire an Autocratic Societal structure even to the point of a caste system if it could be pulled off. Position, Power, Influence, Money, the ‘Power of Pull’ to quote Rand. They will do anything to protect their position in the power pyramid, and will do more to climb the ladder!
