4 missing after Llano River flooding washes out RV park, forces rescues Staff report | San Angelo Standard-Times About daybreak Monday, Oct. 8, 2018, while many residents of Junction, Texas, were asleep, a wall of water came rushing down from the Llano River, catching the town unaware.
Emergency crews are searching for four people whose recreational vehicle was among those swept away from an RV park by the floodwaters, prompting dramatic rescues by helicopters and boats.
Heavy rains started falling Sunday night, causing the South Llano River to rise sharply. Kimble County Sheriff Hilario Cantu said Monday no fatalities had been confirmed but that all the RVs, everything, got swept away.
Officials with the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department were able to rescue nearly four dozen people immediately after floodwaters careened into the RV park and pulled campers into the turbulent surge.
"RVs and tents were all taken into the water," said Rachel Kellner, public information officer for the TPWD. "We immediately were allowed to pick out about 45 people by walking in ... and throwing them a life jacket or throw-rope, but after that, (the water) got too high. Then we had to wait on helicopters and boats."
Kellner said the four missing people, from Odessa, worked together and were swept away by the floodwaters before daybreak.
Authorities said 15 people were rescued by boat and four by helicopter. Kellner said two of the people rescued by air were in a tree with a family dog.

*I used to live and work in Junction. I started working for the City as the New Water Treatment Plant was under construction and the Old Plant was being refurbished to be used as a Prefilter Treatment for the New Membrane Filtering and Treatment Plant.
From the information I have seen the RV Park is in the City right by the City Park and Pool that was completely redone at the same time as the Water Plants do that stuff is ruined.
Very good chance the Water Plants got damaged as well, depends on how high the River got.
Power is out in the City as well.
Prayers would be greatly appreciated for All involved.
Anybody that has a PING List if Ya dont mind Please PING away.
TIA
Many years ago I camped occasionally at Morgans Shady Grove Park which was an old pecan grove behind the courthouse and right on the river. Wondering if this was the park in the article...
Prayers for the folks there.
Kinda, do You remember the Steel Girder Bridge crossing the South River?
If Youre crossing headed in to Town, look Right and on the Town side of Bridge is the one.
Thank You
They have a big mess to clean up. When The South Llano floods it happens fast and rises fast.
We tent camped south and west of there back in 72. Yes, dryland floods were one of the things my uncle’s warned us about.
Yes it can be VERY UNFORGIVING out of nowhere. Hot/Cold, Rain 2 feet away but not where one is standing, Wild Critters with Big Teeth or Fangs, desperate ILLEGALS stealing or trying to kill you or rape your Wife and Kids, Flash Flooding from way upstream with no rain in sight.
Think about 150- 200 years ago. You, a Horse, a Pistol and Rifle, some Salt Tack and YUMMIE Muddy water to share with the Horse.
Just makes Ya wanna be a Cowboy dont it ?
