I’ve never known them to get inside of homes, but always saw them out in the yard. Disgusting insects. They’re rattley flight sound was enough to have me running.
They get into older construction that is not so tightly sealed up and insulated. Mom has a very nice 60’s ranch, gorgeous wormy chestnut tongue and groove paneling in the den. That seems to be where they hide, though. Easy to catch and get rid of, they sun themselves on window ledges like cats, just loafing around. So slow and ponderous. Weird things.
