Like the president, Mrs. Trump has eschewed long-held American ideas of how those who make the White House home ought to conduct themselves. And like him, Mrs. Trump is comfortable showing the world that she does not know what she does not know and that she does not necessarily need to find out.
On one of the most consequential days of her husbands embattled presidency, as the Senate approved his controversial choice for the Supreme Court, Melania Trump traveled to the edge of this sand-colored city and posed before the Great Sphinx, one hand in the pocket of her mens-wear-inspired ensemble. Standing with her back against the enigmatic monument, the equally enigmatic first lady did something unusual: She spoke up for herself.

What a patronizing article.
Author is jealous.
The writer’s intent maybe, but to me it showed how Melania plays by her own rules just like her husband and that’s why she’s awesome.
Typical NYT. Damning with faint praise.
I wish people would focus on what I do, ...Mrs. Trump said in rare comments to reporters, not what I wear.
What a joke. Describe what she is wearing then follow with a quote of her asking not to comment on what she wears.
It's a giant middle finger to the First Lady from the author.
I think Melania plays the media well and they can’t stand that she doesn’t seek their approval.
WTF? His is not an 'embattled' presidency. Having the press and liberals against you is a badge of honor.
"This soft-porn actress, picture-bride, and illegal immigrant is certainly one representing the current USA in all it's bigotry."
Brett Kavanaugh thanked Mrs. Trump in his speech yesterday for her steadfast support she’s shown to him and his family. There is a lot interaction between Melania and people behind the scenes that the media is unworthy to be in on.
