I live in Texas. People from Mexico, first, second, third generation, are an integral part of Texas. What puzzles me is why they would vote Democrat. They are often people of strong family values and faith, and they like the freedoms and economic opportunity in Texas. If they were asked on an individual basis certain questions, I believe that 90% of their answers would be conservative leaning. So how and why do they jump to the Democrat side? How can that change?

My sister teaches math to middle school black kids in Baltimore. She says all the teachers she works with express strong conservative values in conversations - believe in integrity, honesty, hard work, rewards commensurate with performance, achievement, making it on your own in the world rather than living on the dole, etc.

Yet all of them continue to vote Democrat. It is really baffling. People are just reflexive and not critical thinkers — “Pappy did it that way and that’s good enough for me. Democrats are for the little guy.”

How to make that change? Good question. Trump is starting to make progress with his approval among black Americans doubling to the mid 30s. That’s a great start.
