Veteran actor Scott Wilson, best known to TV audiences as Hershel Greene on The Walking Dead, died Saturday. He was 76.
TMZ reports that Wilson died due to complications from leukemia.
News of Wilsons passing comes just hours after it was announced that he will appear in Walking Deads upcoming ninth season, reprising his role as Hershel. Its believed that his episode was shot earlier this summer. Wilson joined AMCs zombie smash in Season 2 and was written out in the middle of Season 4.
Additional TV credits include recurring roles on The OA, Damien, Bosch and CSI.
Walking Deads official Twitter feed confirmed the actors passing late Saturday: We are deeply saddened to report that Scott Wilson, the incredible actor who played Hershel
has passed away at the age of 76. Our thoughts are with his family and friends. Rest in paradise, Scott. We love you!
You’re my new best friend. Exactly right! I would talk to Scott about THE NINTH CONFIGURATION and he semi-pretended to barely remember it. However, when I pressed it, he would relent to memories about it and correct me about certain facts. I never understood why he wouldn’t take my adulation about it. I just figured that he simply didn’t know how it affected other and, to him, it was a cheap gig. (Just my best guess...)
I Googled for his picture, and didn't recognize him at all. The only one of the movies listed by 21twelve I've ever seen was The Great Gatsby, and I don't remember him in that all. The others, I've somehow missed.
Anyway, I regret having minimized his contribution to Hollywood. He was probably a good guy.
RIP Mr. Scott.
Wow. You're so clever. I'll bet your ex-girlfriend and whatever family that still isn't bored by your act, still rolls their eyes.
The guy had a good vibe about him. When he left The Walking Dead it devastated his fellow cast members.
Always the sign of a good guy.
Thank you, Grad. I hope you can look up and watch THE NINTH CONFIGURATION. I think you’ll like it. Just a masterpiece.
Rolling of the eyes is often a sign of affection.
You’re welcome. That is wonderful to hear that he was so down to earth. Hershel was such a likable character on Walking Dead. Scott’s wife will be in my thoughts.
A great career with many memorable performances. I first saw him in “In Cold Blood.” Chilling performance.
XO!
Good for you that you believe that; it's likely the reaction you'll get at your own obit posting, based on your emotional detachment.
That and a fully-stocked fridge loaded with beer and pizza.
You're born broke. You die broke. Why work?

thanks, triple e, for your honesty. It's a rare "man" who will own up to the complete lack of accomplishment in his life. at least this accounts for the lack of insight in your posts.
btw, congrats on that gas-run fridge.
I watch the show even though I think it jumped the shark when Negan bashed the heads. (the most anticipated scene in TV history since Who shot J.R.) I still do “keep up” with it.
For those that have never seen it. It’s not about the zombies. It’s about the interactions of people minus the zombies. It’s the way that it could get here if it hits the fan.
That being said if you watch one episode only watch the one entitled “Nebraska” That one scene in the bar absolutely floored me and it’s the moment that Herschel (RIP) realized that it’s on and its kill or be killed.
“I hear Nebraska’s nice”
“Its about the interactions of people...”
I guess this upcoming season will have less (no?) conflict with other groups and fewer zombies, and will show a society that is trying to grow and sustain itself. I still enjoy the show - but I’m pretty easy to please. It’s a TV show!
My wife and one of my kids threatened to leave when Rick leaves, so we’ll see. I think one of them might have said that about Herschel as well! And Glenn..... They take it too seriously IMHO.
When it first came on I saw ads for it and told my wife to set the recording for it. Then finally got the kids to sit down to watch it with me. Wife stayed in the room.
I bet it was towards the end of the first season, and everyone couldn’t wait for Sunday night to come so we could watch it all together. My kids finally told me they owed me an apology. “Yeah - when you made such a big deal for us to all watch it we thought it was going to be some dumb “Dad” show - so thanks dad!”
Ah - nothing like some family bonding over a zombie show!
Never heard of that movie until now. Looks very interesting and I look forward to watching it.
Wilson was also in The Great Gatsby, where he played Karen Blacks murderous chump of a husband that ran the gas station on the road to and from Nrw York City, to the mansions on Long Island, where Daisy and her husband as well as Jay Gatsby lived.
He had a small role as Scott Crossfield in “The Right Stuff”.
RIP
Yup....the bar scene in Nebraska was the best moment in the series for me. Amazing tension.
#34 re “when will the madness stop”? Nov. 6, 2018 elections. The Zombies will lose and we retake Alexandria and keep Congress. /sarc
The real Alexandria, Va is great for rich white liberals but the poor blacks and Hispanics have tons of crime (the police reported arrests in the weekend section of the paper listed24 for assaults, trespassing, theft, etc). Arlington, Va. next door had no reported arrests though it had two gun incidents.
We really do need to retake Alexandria and Arlington. However, Arlington Republicans/conservatives are better armed, trained, and experienced than the police (because many are combat veterans of Vietnam, Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan and a few were also police officers).
No leftist thug apocalypse there, I can assure you.
Herschel was beheaded by the governor during the siege at the prison.
